BAIBA TURNS SATIRE INTO A SYNTH-POP BANGER WITH NEW SINGLE “LOVER”
Latvian-born, Austria-based electro-pop artist BAIBA returns with “LOVER”, the fourth single from her upcoming album “DELUSIONAL”.
Bright, driving, and irresistibly catchy, LOVER pairs glossy synth-pop with sharp social critique, turning desire, expectation, and objectification into a playful yet pointed pop statement.
Following the satirical edge of her 2023 EP Compulsive, LOVER explores the impossible standards placed on women – especially women in their thirties –
who are endlessly judged, desired, and dismissed all at once. Too old, too young. Too prude, too open. Always fitting the gaze, never fitting the frame.
“LOVER is about what love has often required from me-and how trapped it made me feel” BAIBA explains.
“Being wanted, but never really seen. In the end, the lover is me”. Musically, LOVER thrives on contrast. Euphoric, fast-paced synths and bright melodies collide with ironic, socially critical lyrics. Inspired by artists like Robyn, Katy Perry, and Chappell Roan, the track embraces exaggeration and drama while
remaining effortlessly catchy.
The song came together instinctively in the studio with producer Moritz Kristmann, built around a single vocal-chop synth that shaped both the sound and momentum of the track. What began as a loose idea quickly turned into a fully formed pop banger.
Visually, LOVER continues the autobiographical world of DELUSIONAL, exaggerating society’s stereotype of a woman without a man. Indulgence, excess, and messy pleasure are pushed to the edge of satire – revealing both the absurdity and relatability of these projections.
LOVER is the fourth single from DELUSIONAL, BAIBA’s third studio album, out May 22nd. The release will be supported by festival shows across Austria and the Czech Republic this summer, followed by an Austrian tour in autumn. BAIBA’s “LOVER” will be available on all major streaming platforms on February 27th.
